Become a friend of Police Care UK

As a Friend of Police Care, you can give knowing your support is directly helping members of the Police Family who have suffered both physical and psychological harm. Police Care UK is the National Charity that supports both serving and retired Police Officers and Staff who have suffered physical and psychological harm, helping them recover and rebuild their lives.

In 2019-20 we have seen a 500% increase in people coming to us for help and we are already seeing officers asking for help in relation to COVID-19. The money raised will go towards our continuing support of the police and their families. As a charity, Police Care UK make sure that both serving and former colleagues and their families have someone to turn to when things get tough.

Become a Friend of Police Care by setting up a regular donation, at an amount that suits you. Friends of Police Care can control their giving and have the opportunity to change or pause donations if needed. In return, we will keep you updated with how your support is making a crucial difference and you will have the opportunity to earn badges as you donate.

What is a Friend of Police Care?

The Friends of Police Care UK is a scheme where those who wish to help support members of the police family who have been harmed as a result of policing and are in need, can make monthly donations to support the charity’s vital work, caring for both serving and retired Police Officers, Staff, and volunteers, who have suffered physical or psychological harm. The monthly donations allow people to spread the cost of their support. The scheme is not limited to members of police forces, so anyone can contribute.

What will I receive?

  • An exclusive Friend of Police Care badge to mark your first year of giving

Soon after you’ve signed up you will receive written confirmation of your regular donation. We will provide you with information on how to manage your donations and information. As a Friend of Police Care, we will continue to keep you updated with the difference your donations are making. This is likely to be around once a month and we promise not to bombard you! You can opt out of receiving messages at any time, but please remember this means you will no longer receive any updates about the crucial difference your support is making.

Who benefits from my regular donation?

By giving regularly, you would be helping us to change lives not just today, but tomorrow and in years to come. Your regular gift would provide the charity with reliable income which would allow us to do more and plan ahead. Serving and veteran members of police forces and their families benefit from your donations, and this support could be psychological, financial, by way of specialist equipment grants, assistance with career transition, veteran's peer support, or educational bursaries.

How do I become a Friend?

It's very easy! Sign up as a regular donor and you will automatically be a Friend of Police Care UK.

Is this scheme a subscription service?

No. This regular giving scheme is not a subscription, so it does not automatically entitle supporters to the charity’s services. This is because anyone eligible for support from Police Care UK can make a referral for help, find out more here. It’s important to us that those who need our help are able to access it, even if they can’t afford to make any donations to us. Just like most other charities, we rely on donations and fundraising to care for the thousands of serving and veteran police and their families, who need our help every day. We will always provide a much assistance as we can afford.

Can I choose how much I donate?

Any donation helps our work. It is important to us that you are comfortable with any donations you make. We have suggested amounts you can donate monthly, from just £5. Your donation is completely within your control, and you can change it at any time.

Can I change or cancel my monthly donation?

We understand that situations can change and you may wish to adjust or cancel a monthly donation. We want you to have total control so it’s very easy to change or cancel your donations using your Donorbox account, which is the trusted platform we use to process your donations. When you start regular donations, Donorbox will send you an email which enables you to access and manage your account. Should you have any concerns at all regarding your regular donation, please contact our Fundraising team on 0300 012 0030 or email fundraising@policecare.org.uk.

Can I increase my donation with Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a Government scheme that allows charities to reclaim tax on donations made by a UK taxpayer. This means if you Gift Aid your donations, they will be worth 25% more to Police Care UK, at no extra cost to you.  If you are a UK taxpayer, you can Gift Aid your donations. You do not have to be in full-time employment to Gift Aid your donations. If your circumstances change, you can contact us to cancel your Gift Aid declaration.
