“Never again” was the reaction from Police Care UK’s Head of Fundraising, Vlada Penlington, after completing the National Three Peaks Challenge earlier this month.
Team Police Care UK reached the summits of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon within 24 hours on 6 June, raising more than £3,000 so far to support our work reducing the impact of harm experienced through policing.
The team faced challenging weather and difficult terrain, including snow-capped peaks, as they tested themselves in support of members of the police community living with the physical and psychological impact of their work.
They completed the challenge in 22 hours and 30 minutes, but Vlada said she would not be putting her walking boots on for the National Three Peaks again any time soon.
“Of course, I would take on a fundraising challenge again, but the National Three Peaks? No, thank you,” she laughed.
“When I think about it, it seems like virtual reality. I ask myself ‘Did I actually do that?’. It all happened so quickly.
“We climbed up, climbed down, slept…..bang, bang bang, one after the other. It seemed there was no time to rest.
“I’m glad I did it and I’m proud to have supported those who have been impacted by harm in policing, but I’m never doing the Three Peaks again.”
Every pound raised helps us provide specialist trauma therapy and financial assistance for police living with the impact of physical or psychological harm experienced through policing.
The team is now only a few hundred pounds short of its fundraising target. You can still support their efforts by donating here.
