Why Register?
When you register your harm, it means:
- You won’t need to repeat your story every time you apply for support
- You and your family can access financial grants more easily in the future
- You’ll have a verified record of your injury, helping us understand your needs fairly and consistently
Even if you don’t need financial support right now, registering means it’s there for you later if your circumstances change.
Who Can Register?
Registration needs to be completed by:
- You, if you are the injured person; this includes serving or former police officers, staff members, volunteers, special constables, or cadets who have experienced physical or psychological harm through your policing role
- A family member of a deceased police officer or staff member; if the harm resulted in death, a spouse, partner, or dependant can register on their behalf
If the police personnel are still living, only they can complete the registration. Family members of living police personnel cannot register on their behalf.
What You’ll Need to Register
To complete your registration, you’ll need:
- A completed registration form (available by contacting our team)
- Documentary evidence of the harm you’ve experienced and how it is linked to your policing role
Examples of accepted documents include:
- Injury on duty form (available from Human Resources (HR) or personnel files)
- Psychiatrist report detailing PTSD or CPTSD linked to policing
- Occupational Health reports
- Selected Medical Practitioner (SMP) reports
- Medical reports
- News articles or social services reports
- Occupational Therapist assessments
Please wait until you have all required documents before submitting your registration. We can’t help you gather documentation, but our team can support you in understanding what you might need.
What Happens Next
Once we receive your completed registration form and supporting documents:
• We will review your submission and may contact you if we need any further information
• Processing can take up to four weeks
• Once you’re registered, you or your family can apply for financial grants and bursaries (subject to eligibility and funding criteria)
